HAIKOU, China, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- Italian rider Jakub Mareczko from Wilier Triestina cycling team won the fifth stage after beating Estonian rider Martin Laas from Team Delko Marseille in Tour of Hainan on Wednesday. This was also his fourth consecutive stage win in this event.
One terrible crash accident happened 23 kilometers to the finishing line, some riders of Hainan Jilun cycling team and Team Isowhey Sports Swisswellnes were involved. Australian rider Anthony Giacoppo was evicted from the race for violating rules when pursuing the peloton.
Vitaliy Buts from Kolss cycling team keeps polka-dot jersey as the best climber. Chinese rider Liu Jianpeng from Hengxiang cycling team keeps the blue jersey representing the best Asian rider, his teammate, Ma Guangtong withdrawed from the race.
"It went very fast from the beginning, and my teammates had been very helpful. There's one mountain stage left in next four stages, we'll be prepared for winning the final championship," Mareczko said after winning the stage.
The next stage stretched from Changjiang to Sanya, covering a total distance of 219.6 kilometers.
