LONDON, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- British stocks rose on Thursday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index up by 0.53 percent, or 39.29 points, to close at 7,486.50 points.
Unilever, a multinational consumer goods company, soared 3.34 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. RELX and British American Tobacco increased by 2.19 percent and 2.53 percent, respectively.
The major British bank Barclays was the worst performer in the blue chips, with its shares losing 7.41 percent. The British pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline dropped 3.43 percent. Shire, a global specialty biopharmaceutical company, fell 2.06 percent. Enditem
