NEW DELHI, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- India has ordered a probe into a brutal attack on a Swiss couple by a mob in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday.
Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj Thursday said she has sought a report from the Uttar Pradesh government.
"I have asked for a report from the State Government. My officers will reach them in the hospital," she tweeted.
The couple, 24-year-old Quentin Jeremy Clerc and his girlfriend Marie Droz, were reportedly stalked, harassed and then attacked with sticks and stones in Fatehpur Sikri, close to Agra, that is home to the iconic Taj Mahal which draws many foreign tourists.
The attack left Clerc with a fractured skull and nerve damage, and the woman with broken bones and multiple bruises.
Meanwhile, police said they have identified the main mastermind behind the mob attack and arrested his brother.
"One person named Mukul is the main accused in instigating the attack and we have nabbed his brother," said Pradeep Kumar, in-charge of Fatehpur Sikri police station.
This is not the first such incident involving foreign tourists in Agra. In 2014, a German woman was molested by a hotel manager in the city, while in 2007, two Japanese tourists were gangraped there.
