Danish Axelsen out of Denmark Badminton Open

COPENHAGEN, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Danish world champion Viktor Axelsen was on Friday elbowed out of Denmark Open after a 2-1 defeat to Indian Kidambi Srikanth in the quarterfinals.

No. 2 seed Axelsen lost the game 14-21, 22-20, 21-7 to Srikanth, who is seeded 8th.

The defeat left Denmark with only men's double players Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen in the tournament. The duo will face Chinese duo Liu Cheng and Zhang Nan in semifinals on Saturday.

Axelsen became the World champion in the 2017 BWF World Championships, held in Glasgow, Scotland, by beating Chinese Lin Dan.

Denmark Open is held in central Danish city of Odense from Oct. 17 to 22. Enditem
