TBILISI, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- A powerful storm hit Georgia's Black Sea coastal region on Tuesday, causing dozens of regions flooded.

According to local reports, sea waves as high as several meters swept onto promenades along the seafront of the coastal city of Batumi earlier Tuesday.

The strong wind overnight took off a roof of Batumi State University's old building and fell trees, with the boulevard covered by pieces of woods and debris on Tuesday morning.

Severe weather has also hit other western regions. Homes were flooded and roads were damaged by landslides and swollen rivers in the Guria and Imereti regions near the coastal line.

A village in the Kharagauli Municipality in Imereti region has been isolated from the rest of the world after a road has been swept away following two-day intense rainfall.

According to local government, in Kutaisi, the second largest city of the country, roads to the villages, farms, agricultural lands and residential houses have been flooded in all municipalities.

Emergency headquarters have been created in all affected municipalities and works were underway to repair damage and reopen roads.
