BERLIN, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- The widely-publicized National Socialist Underground (NSU) trial in Germany has temporarily come to a halt due to several bias petitions launched by defendants on Wednesday.
The lawyers for the secondary suspects Ralf Wohlleben and Andre E. delayed the hearing of the Federal Prosecution Office's final plea for the punishment of their clients until Oct. 24.
A dispute over an arrest warrant for the suspected terrorist accomplice Andre E. had previously already forced a three-week break in the trial, bringing the court close to the maximum length of interruptions legally permitted. Judicial proceedings surrounding the NSU have been ongoing at the Munich Higher Regional Court since 2013.
The Federal Prosecution Office has called for imposing 12-year sentences for both Ralf Wohlleben and Andre E. due to their alleged involvement in the series of racially-motivated murders and bombings carried out by the NSU terror group.
Public prosecutors are demanding a life sentence without the possibility of a premature release for the primary suspect Beate Zschaepe.
