TIRANA, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- The consortium for construction of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) is planning to invest a total of 800 million euros (940 million U.S. dollars) in Albania for the period of 2017-2018, TAP country manager for Albania Shkelqim Bozgo was cited by local media as saying in an interview Tuesday.
According to Bozgo, TAP project, which is considered as the largest foreign investment ever carried out in Albania, is expected to bring a total of 1.5 billion U.S. dollars worth investment in Albania.
Apart from the construction of TAP, the consortium will also help Albania in its gasification project, he said.
TAP has also had a significant social impact as it created many jobs for the residents in the zones it passes through and has build new roads, new health care centers, etc, according to Bozgo.
TAP is a part of the Southern Gas Corridor which is one of the priority energy projects for the European Union.
TAP project envisages transportation of gas from the Stage 2 of development of Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz gas and condensate field to EU countries.
TAP will be 878 kilometers in length (Greece 550 km, Albania 215 km, Adriatic Sea 105 km, and Italy 8 km). Its highest point will be 1,800 meters in Albania's mountains, while its lowest point will be 820 meters beneath the sea.
