BEIJING, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Dell Technologies chairman and CEO said he firmly believes that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be more helpful than harmful to humans.

"In the future, it must be human plus machine, not machine minus human," Michael Dell told Xinhua in a recent interview during his visit to Beijing.

Over the past years, AI has increasingly become a hot topic globally.

Some people, however, view the evolution of AI as a risk that could cut jobs dramatically, or even bring devastation to human civilization.

Dell believes there is no need to fear the coming AI revolution, saying "We should not be afraid of new tools."

He made the remarks during his first visit to China since the new Dell Technologies Inc. was founded after the privatization of Dell Inc. and the acquisition of EMC, an enterprise software and storage company in September 2016.

Dell also said that data has become a brand new economic factor after traditional labor and capital.

"Data is a new power, which promotes the development of human civilization," he said.

Dell said that in the era of big data, the combination of Internet of Things, 5th generation telecom networks, AI, machine learning and many other innovations are reshaping almost every aspect of the whole economy, commerce and society.

Noting that IT plays a vital role in the era, he said, "This trend is the so-called digital revolution."

Dell also saw a series of innovations during his visit to China.

He thought that many sectors like e-commerce, mobile payment and "sharing economy" in China are blazing a trail.

"China plays an increasingly crucial role on the world's economic stage, so does China in Dell's landscape," he said.
