SEOUL, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's exports hit a record monthly high of 55.13 billion U.S. dollars in September, up 35.0 percent from a year earlier, a government report showed Sunday.
The figure was the highest since the relevant data began to be compiled in 1956, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
The exports, which account for about half of the South Korean economy, kept a growth momentum for 11 straight months.
Imports advanced 21.7 percent from a year earlier to 41.38 billion dollars in September, sending the trade surplus to 13.75 billion dollars last month.
The trade balance stayed in the black for 68 months through September. Enditem
