KIEV, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Two Israeli nationals were slightly injured early Thursday in an explosion of an unknown object near a pilgrimage site for Hasidic Jews in the city of Uman in central Ukraine, the National Police of Ukraine said.
The blast occurred at about 6:00 a.m. local time (0300 GMT) in garages surrounding the area where pilgrims temporarily reside, the police said in a statement, adding that the country's deputy police chief is heading to the site of the explosion.
A 13-year-old boy was cut in the arm in the blast, while an adult received a minor leg injury, the statement said.
Police have opened a criminal investigation into the incident.
Each September thousands of Jewish pilgrims travel to Uman, a small city some 250 km south of Kiev, to celebrate the Jewish New Year near the gravesite of spiritual leader Rabbi Nachman of Breslov.
This year, an estimated 30,000 pilgrims from 14 countries came to Uman for the New Year celebrations on Sept. 20-22.
