Indonesia's Batam to host SPGA qualifying golf tournament

JAKARTA, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's Batam golf course of Palm Springs Golf & Resort in Nongsa will continue to host the third Singapore Professional Golf Association (SPGA) qualifying golf tournament from September 11 to 13 after holding the previous two.

The SPGA event is composed of a total of seven qualifying legs.

Golfers qualifying from tournaments will vie in the grand final scheduled in December.

"As of now around 100 golfers have been registered, would struggle to gain points for the 2017 SPGA final match. They will come here from Monday to Wednesday next week," Head Batam tourism office Pebrialin said.

The previous two SPGA qualifying tournaments were held in the golf course in February 27 to March and in May 22 to 24 this year.

Indonesia Tourism Minister Arief Yahya warmly welcomed the upcoming golf tournament, saying that the golf tournament would bring many positive impacts to Indonesian tourism sector.
