MOSCOW, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Russia has developed a variety of bombs for combat unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) with a payload of up to 50 km for the first time, local media reported Wednesday.

Russian news outlet Sputnik cited an unnamed defense industry source as saying that the guided and glide bombs vary anywhere from 1 to 2 meters in length, while the mass of the payload and the warhead might be 7 to 50 km.

The bombs are capable of changing flight paths through trajectory adjustment by radio signals. The targeting is performed by a laser-guiding system, accompanied by the use of a video-based guidance module.

UAVs are widely used by the Russian armed forces in its operations in Syria. According to its military, Russia's combat aerial drones have performed more than 14,000 sorties since the start of the military operation in Syria in 2015.
