HOUSTON, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Former President George H.W. Bush and wife Barbara Bush released a statement on twitter Monday regarding the flooding in Houston and all Texans affected by Hurricane Harvey.
He tweeted, "Barbara and I are in Maine, but our hearts are in Houston. We are praying for all of our fellow Houstonians and Texans affected by Harvey."
Harvey's rains continue to fall across the Houston area, Bush and Barbara issued the message to show their support for Houston.
They said in the statement that they salute to the first responders and the local elected officials for their grit and determination "in the face of this extraordinary storm. This we know: Houston, and Texas, will come together and rebuild."
The Bushes are longtime Houstonians who came to Houston for the same reason as many others - the oil business.
He later became chairman of the Republican Party in Harris County, where Houston is located, and then a congressman from Texas.
After leaving the White House in 1993, the couple moved back to Houston.
Catastrophic flooding waters brought by the Hurricane Harvey which made landfall Friday night have inundated Houston and the forecasts expected thunderstorms may produce more heavy rainfalls in the coming days into next week.
