MADRID, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Spanish Interior Minister Juan Ignacio Zoido on Monday proposed Spain's cities revise their security plans in the wake of the Aug. 17 terror attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils which claimed 16 lives.
Zoido made his proposal while addressing the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP).
"We will have to revise general security plans and possibly study other measures which attend to specific circumstances that happen in cities which have an extra dimension to their population as the results of any extra concentration of people," commented Zoido, adding that local authorities and the Interior Ministry had to work "hand in hand" on the issue.
The Interior Ministry on Monday confirmed that it was drawing up technical instructions for local police forces to help them better deal with terrorism and was also working to improve the exchange of information between different security forces and coordination with emergency services.
"We have to define coordination with exactitude to respond to the needs," explained Zoido.
In an attempt to stop possible car and truck attacks, several Spanish cities such as Madrid have already placed concrete bollards in areas where there are high concentrations of people.
A van attack on the popular Barcelona street Las Ramblas killed 14 of the 16 people who died in twin attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils.
