DOHA, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Senegal has decided to reappoint its ambassador to Qatar recalled in June amid the Gulf crisis, amid a thaw in their ties, the official Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported Tuesday.
Senegal made the decision after a telephone conversation held Monday between Senegal's President Macky Sall and Qatar's Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, the QNA said.
The two leaders discussed the biliteral relations and the latest developments in the region, especially the Gulf crisis, it added.
The crisis was caused by the Saudi Arabia-led quartet's moves on June 5 to cut diplomatic ties with Qatar and imposed a blockade on the rich tiny Gulf nation.
The quartet accused Qatar of supporting terrorism, interfering in their internal affairs and seeking closer ties with Iran, a rival to most Gulf nations.
But Qatar has strongly denied the charges, while rejecting a list of demands put forward by the quartet for restoring diplomatic ties, citing the need to protect its sovereignty.
Senegal's Foreign Ministry announced on June 7 to recall its ambassador to Qatar after the Saudi-led quartet's decision to cut ties with Qatar.
