LAMU, Kenya, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Kenyan police said Friday that they had arrested three Al-Shabaab suspects behind the killing of four people in the coastal county of Lamu.

Coast regional police commandant Larry Kieng said the three were arrested in Witu area after the attack by the Somalia-based militants.

"We are holding three suspects over the attack, and several crude weapons were also seized from the three," Kieng said.

Police said a group of heavily armed suspected Al-Shabaab militants raided a village and beheaded the four locals, all men. The militants also torched several houses before disappearing into the bushes.

"Police are currently combing the village to pursue other accomplices who escaped," said Kieng.

The latest attack came barely ten days after nine people were murdered in Jima and Poromoko villages, Lamu County.

On Aug. 2, three other locals were killed after suspected Al-Shabaab militants attacked a passenger bus at Nyongoro area in Witu, Lamu County.

The attack took place on Lamu-Garsen highway and left another person with a gunshot wound. The government has banned public vehicles from plying the highway over security concerns.
