Belarus BATE wins Slavia, not enough for Champions League playoffs

MINSK, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Belarusian football club BATE Borisov beat Prague's Slavia in the second leg of the third round qualifying of Champions League in Borisov with a score of 2-1, but Slavia progressed through after two legs on away goals rule.

BATE lost to Slavia following the results of the two meetings of the Champions League qualification and will fight for an exit in the group stage of the League of Europe.

At the beginning of the match, on the 5 minute, Nikolai Signevich from BATE scored after the mistake made by goalkeeper Jan Lashtuvka. After that, the guests seized the initiative and forced BATE to defend.

Czechs managed to recoup a minute before the break - the captain Milan Skoda managed to score - 1-1.

Immediately after the restart of the game Belarusian players again went ahead, on the 46th minute BATE's captain Igor Stasevich scored 2-1. For the general victory Borisov needed to score only one goal, but all their efforts were not enough.

In the first leg the Belarusian players lost to the Czech champion in Prague with a minimum score of 0-1.
