LUSAKA, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Zambian President Edgar Lungu on Monday congratulated the Under-17 national soccer team for lifting the Council of Southern Africa Football Association (COSAFA) championship.

The junior Chipolopolo emerged winners of the 2017 junior competition after beating hosts Mauritius 3-0 during the finals played at St Francois Xavier Stadium in Port Louis on Sunday.

Lungu said the splendid performance and ultimate victory of the junior team was a clear indication of Zambia's bright future in soccer.

"The marvelous performance by the boys shows that we have an oasis of talent to tap into for us to form the future senior national team. The Under-17 has made us proud and it is my prayer that they will be consistent in their performance to bring greater glory to the nation," he said, according to a statement released by his office.
