RIYADH, July 30 (Xinhua) -- One policeman was killed on Sunday in a fresh attack on a police patrol in Qatif region in eastern Saudi Arabia, said the Interior Ministry.
Some six policemen were also injured, as the ministry spokesperson confirmed that the projectile attack happened in Masora neighborhood in Qatif, Al Arabiya local news reported.
The condition of the injured were stable, said the report.
Such attacks are common in the region, especially in Masora neighborhood, which saw death of a policeman and an officer in blasts in recent months.
Violence in Qatif has escalated after the demolishing of hideouts of fugitives, who are behind rioting and vandalism in the region.
Most of those rioters are youth, who are part of the minority Shiite community in Saudi Arabia, demanding more rights in the Sunni conservative state.
