LONDON, July 29 (Xinhua) -- A driver has crashed his new Ferrari worth more than 260,000 U.S. dollars in central England, just an hour after collecting it, reports said.
The accident happened Thursday afternoon on the M1 motorway near Barnsley, South Yorkshire, as the Ferrari 430 Scuderia "left the carriageway and burst into flames," according to a Facebook post published Friday by the South Yorkshire police.
The driver told police he collected the supercar just an hour ago, read the post.
"Officers asked the driver what sort of car he 'had' to which he replied: 'it was a Ferrari.' Detecting a sense of damaged pride he then said: 'I've only just got it, picked it up an hour ago.'"
Police believe excess speed was not a contributory factor in the collision and the driver, who only had minor cuts and bruises, had been "very lucky," according to the post.
"Over the past couple weeks there has been a number of collisions where driving styles have not reflected the road and weather conditions," they said. "Please take more care!"
