NEW DELHI, July 19 (Xinhua) -- The Indian parliament witnessed massive uproar Wednesday as opposition parties demanded immediate discussion on the plight of farmers in this country.
The Lok Sabha (Lower House of Parliament) had to be adjourned a few times on the third day of the monsoon session as opposition members, including from the Congress and Left parties, staged a walkout over the farmers' issues.
Every time the House resumed, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge demanded immediate discussion on farmers' plight and suicides.
However, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan rejected the adjournment motion, saying that the issue will be discussed in the business of the House.
Indian Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar also pleaded with the opposition members, saying that the government is committed to the welfare of farmers. However, an unrelenting opposition members staged a walkout.
Both the Upper House (Rajya Sabha) and the Lower House witnessed repeated adjournments Tuesday, with the opposition forcing a washout by creating pandemonium over various issues. Enditem
