ANKARA, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Some 17 Turkish soldiers were wounded on Monday after a hand-made bomb was detonated by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants in southeast Turkey, said the military.

A military vehicle was attacked by improvised explosive device as it passed through the town of Esendere in southeastern Hakkari province, the military said in a statement, adding the wounded were immediately taken to hospital.

Hakkari province, which borders Iran and Iraq, is one of the main bases for Turkish government to strike PKK militants, who has been striving for the establishment of an independent Kurdish state.

The PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the EU, has resumed its armed campaign against the Turkish government since July 2015.
