Myanmar burns over 385-mln-USD narcotics

YANGON, June 27 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar authorities have burned a total of 385 million U.S. dollars worth of drugs in three areas across the country to mark the 30th International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Myanmar News Agency reported Tuesday.

The three areas where drug destruction ceremonies were held on Monday to commemorate the international anti-drug day are Yangon, Mandalay and Shan state-south's Taunggyi.

Altogether 1,323 kg of opium, 735 kg of heroin and 131.28 million tablets of stimulants were put on fire among other drug precursors.

In Yangon alone, 217.94 million U.S. dollars' worth of drugs, were destroyed.

The confiscated drug burned in the former capital included 7.05 kg of opium, 0.97 kg of heroin, 449.8 kg of Cocaine, 1,094 kg of Ice and 74 million stimulant tablets among others.
