PHNOM PENH, June 10 (Xinhua) -- Nineteen Cambodian passengers and a bus driver were injured when a lorry crashed into their bus early Saturday in Cambodia's northwestern Battambang province, the National Police website said.
The accident took place at 2:40 a.m. local time (0740 GMT) on the National Road No. 5 when the two vehicles, driven in an opposite direction, hit head-on.
"Twelve of the injured people are in serious condition," the National Police website said, adding that the victims had been rushed to a provincial hospital.
Police said the lorry driver, who escaped the scene, was blamed for the accident.
Road accidents are a leading cause of death in this Southeast Asian country. According to a government report, road crashes killed 1,717 people in 2016.
