LONDON, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Britain's national daily newspapers, with one big exception, urged readers Thursday to support Prime Minister Theresa May and the Conservatives in the general election.
Only the traditional Labour-supporting tabloid Daily Mirror flew the flag for Jeremy Corbyn, leader of Britain's main opposition party.
Unlike radio and television stations in Britain which are not allowed to be politically biased, newspapers are free to express their choices. The voice of the national press, collectively known as "Fleet Street", traditionally gives it's opinions.
The Mirror and rival red-top rival the Sun used dramatic front pages to convey their thoughts on who should, or shouldn't win as Britain's 47 million voters cast their votes.
The Conservative supporting Sun attacked Labour with its play-on-words front-page headline: "Don't Chuck Britain in the Cor-bin".
Firing a list of bullet points, a commentary described the Labour leader as "useless on Brexit", and "puppet of unions".
The Daily Mirror, meanwhile, hailed its support for the Labour party with an attack on the governing Conservatives. It's front page headline said: "Lies, damned lies, and Theresa May".
The pro-Brexit Daily Mail backed May with a front-page message "Let's reignite British Spirit". Beneath a photograph of a beaming May, the Mail highlighted her eve of poll rally speech claiming a win for Corbyn would "tax your work, your garden, your home and your inheritance".
The Daily Telegraph's headline: "Your Country Needs You" was accompanied by an editorial by May urging patriotic Labour supporters to vote Conservative.
The Daily Express front page headline carried the simple message: "Vote for May Today" while the main national newspaper for the business world, the Financial Times, also backed Theresa May in its editorials.
