LONDON, June 7 (Xinhua) -- A body recovered by police from the River Thames on Tuesday is believed to be that of French national Xavier Thomas, 45, who had not been seen since Saturday's terror attack on London Bridge.
Thomas, a French tourist to Britain, was found on Tuesday night in the water near Limehouse, East London by the Metropolitan Police, a spokesman for the police said Wednesday. He became the eighth person to be confirmed dead in the attack.
It is thought he was hit and thrown into the river by a speeding van which ploughed into pedestrians walking on the bridge.
The three terrorists were later gunned down and killed by police.
Thomas was with his girlfriend Christine Delcros who was also hit and is in hospital in London. Delcros was badly injured in the attack and is now recovering after undergoing an operation.
Detectives in the capital had appealed for information about Thomas following his disappearance.
Police said a formal identification of the body had not yet taken place, however Thomas' next of kin had been informed of the development.
