RIYADH, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Freezing Qatar membership in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Arab League is under discussion, Al Sharq Al Awsat local newspaper reported on Wednesday.
The negotiations are taking place as response of the severing of political ties with Qatar by a number of countries, led by Saudi Arabia to pressure the rich Gulf state to stop interfering in the internal affairs of countries and supporting armed and terrorist groups.
Gulf sources confirmed to the newspaper that the freezing of membership will take place if Qatar continues with its terrorism supporting approach, in addition to the suspension of its membership in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
Meanwhile, the sources also highlighted that the Saudi foreign ministry held a meeting on Tuesday with a number of Asian Ambassadors in Riyadh to explain the reason of the recent conflicts with Qatar and the Qatari practices that are risking the national security of Saudi Arabia and other Gulf and Arab states.
