CHANGSHA, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Continuous downpours have forced the evacuation of about 7,300 people in central China's Hunan Province, local authorities said Wednesday.

Heavy rain has affected close to 300,000 people in five cities and one prefecture in Hunan, toppling 335 houses and damaging crops over an area of 17,490 hectares, according to the provincial flood control and drought relief headquarters.

Downpours also caused the water levels of Hunan's four major rivers to rise, although none above warning levels.

Four government teams have been sent to guide residents on natural disasters. According to local weather forecasts, the downpours will diminish in the following two days, but another round of heavy rain will hit Hunan Saturday.
