Police shoot man who attacks police with hammer in Paris

PARIS, June 6 (Xinhua) -- A man armed with a hammer attacked policemen on Tuesday outside Notre Dame cathedral in Paris before being shot and wounded, news channel BFMTV reported.

The men targeted police outside Notre Dame cathedral who responded by opening fire. The assailant was injured in his chest, according to the report.

On its tweeter account, Paris police said operation underway at Notre Dame and called public to stay away and avoid the zone.
