FREETOWN, June 5 (Xinhua) -- Traffic Police in Sierra Leone's second largest city of Bo confirmed Monday morning that 17 passengers have died in a gruesome road accident that occurred in the Freetown-Bo highway on Sunday.
Eleven people were also critically injured and are currently at the Bo government hospital.
According to traffic officer Lawrence Lahai in Bo, who confirmed the the accident, the truckload of about 300 passengers, mostly traders were on their way to Kailahun in the east of the country, when the accident happened.
The cause of the accident is still unknown but police have arrested the driver, who is helping the police with investigations.
John Kamara, a passenger who came out unhurt, attributed the accident to "dizziness and fatigue" of the driver, noting that the driver was complaining of dizziness on the way.
