KABUL, June 3 (Xinhua) -- The capital of Afghanistan Kabul has remained tense on Saturday after Friday's massive demonstration during which five people had been reportedly killed and more than 10 others injured.

The government has beefed up security measures and deputed security personnel on sensitive areas, roads and streets leading to Presidential Palace and other important buildings, on Saturday to check any untoward incidents.

Thousands of people came to streets on Friday to register their protest over the deadly terrorist attack in Kabul city on Wednesday that claimed more than 90 lives and injured more than 400 others, mostly civilians, including women and children.

Blaming the government for what they described "failure to check terrorist activities," besides demanding the resignation of government leaders, the protesters also called for the exemplary punishments of terrorists languishing in government prisons.

According to police, the protest demonstration turned violent after the demonstrators attempted to sneak into Presidential Palace, prompting police to use water cannon, riot gear and live bullet firing on the air to disperse the protesters.
