MADRID, June 1 (Xinhua) -- Spain's car sales rose by 11.2 percent in May when compared with the same month last year, according to data released Thursday.
The Association of Car Manufacturers (ANFAC), the Federation of Association of Dealers of the Automotive sector (FACONAUTO) and the Association of Car Dealers (GANVAM) reported that purchases reached 126,411 in the fifth month of the year.
Purchases made by individuals reached 54,645 in May, which meant a 6 percent rise when compared with the same month of last year.
Those made by renting companies reached 40,249 purchases, a 18 percent increase while firms bought 31,517 units, a 12.4 percent increase compared with the same month last year.
The organizations of the sector said that in the first five months of the year, car sales rose by 7.3 percent to a total of 535,697 when compared with the same period last year.
The sector urges for incentives to boost the market which has not returned to pre-crisis levels yet. They stated that the crisis has had an impact on Spaniards' purchasing power, which has been affecting the sector's sales. Enditem
