NAIROBI, June 1 (Xinhua) -- The following are the news highlights in Kenya's major media outlets on Thursday:
-- More than 1,000 Kenyans, Chinese diplomats and government officials joined President Uhuru Kenyatta in an inaugural ride on the brand new passenger standard gauge railway train from Mombasa to Nairobi.
Kenyatta said the trip signaled the start of good tidings for the Kenyan public transport system and added that there should be continuity of infrastructure projects regardless of who wins the Aug. 8 polls. (Daily Nation)
-- Seven police officers and a civilian died after an armoured vehicle was blown up by suspected Al-Shabaab terrorists at the Kenyan Coast. After the explosion the terrorists opened fire to police officers who had gone to rescue their colleagues. (The Standard).
-- MPs are rushing to pass key legislations as they have just seven sitting days to debate the laws before parliament officially adjourns for the August 8 polls. (The Star)
