Tokyo stocks open lower on concerns for U.S. economy

TOKYO, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Monday following U.S. shares retreating at the end of last weak on falling consumer prices which triggered concerns for the health of the U.S. economy.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 118.87 points, or 0.60 percent, from Friday to 19,765.03.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange dropped 7.79 points, or 0.49 percent, to 1,572.92.

Mining, oil and coal product, and iron and steel-linked issues comprised those that retreated the most from the morning bell.
