TOKYO, May 12 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks retreated Friday morning as the market mood was soured by the yen's appreciation against the U.S. dollar and Wall Street's overnight decline.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 138.27 points, or 0.69 percent, from Thursday to 19,823.28.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 1.33 points, or 0.71 percent, to 1,575.53.

Nonferrous metal, transportation equipment, and real estate-linked stocks comprised those that retreated the most by the morning break.
