TOKYO, April 28 (Xinhua) -- ANA Holdings Inc. announced Friday a record group net profit in fiscal 2016 owing to lower fuel costs and an increase in international travelers.

ANA, the parent of All Nippon Airways Co., said that for the business year ending March 31, its consolidated net profit rose 26.4 percent from a year earlier to 98.83 billion yen (888 million U.S. dollars).

ANA also said its company's group operating profit gained 6.7 percent to 145.54 billion yen, but said its sales retreated 1.4 percent to 1.77 trillion yen, owing to lower surcharges and a firmer yen impacting its overseas earnings.

ANA said the volume of passengers it carried on international flights increased from a year earlier by 11.6 percent to 9.12 million passengers.

It said this was due to solid demand for its flights to and from Japan as well as those to the United States flying through Asia.

ANA's domestic passenger revenue dropped 1.1 percent, however, to 678.33 billion yen, owing in part to fewer flights in the wake of powerful earthquakes that hit Kumamoto Prefecture in April last year.

For fiscal 2017 ending March 2018, ANA said it projects a group net profit to rise 26.5 percent to 125 billion yen.

ANA also said it expects an operating profit of 150 billion yen, up 3.1 percent, on sales of 1.91 trillion yen, which is an increase of 8.2 percent.
