SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, April 15 (Xinhua) -- At least 32 residential and commercial establishments were gutted Saturday in a devastating fire in Indian-controlled Kashmir, officials said.
The fire broke out at main market in Gandoh town of Doda district, about 267 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
No loss of life was reported in the incident.
"In a devastating incident today, at least 26 business establishments and six residential houses were gutted here," a senior government official told Xinhua over telephone.
"Most of the structures in the market were made of wood because of which the fire caused large scale destruction," the official added.
The officials of region's Fire and Emergency Services department said it took several hours for them to contain fire and douse the flames.
The cause of the fire was not known. Police said they were ascertaining the reasons behind the fire.
Region's Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has expressed grief over the fire incident.
"The Chief Minister has directed the administration to extend all possible help to the fire victims by way of temporary shelters and items of daily usage," a government spokesman said.
