LUSAKA, March 15 (Xinhua) -- Zambia's ruling party on Wednesday tried to diffuse reports of friction among senior officials, saying there was no confusion in the party.

Reports have emerged that some senior members of the Patriotic Front (PF) are calling for the dismissal of the secretary-general Davies Mwila while other senior party officials have publicly clashed in the media.

Mumbi Phiri, the party's deputy secretary-general, said the top leadership was united and that the confusion was just a matter of perception.

"The confusion the people are talking about we do not see it. I do not see it. I am at the secretariat everyday and people are in harmony," she told reporters during a press briefing.

The party, she said, was currently united, adding that all senior members were "standing together".

She further said the party's secretary-general had the support of all members and the top leadership.

The PF, formed by late President Michael Sata in 2001, has been in power in Zambia since 2011.
