aTUNIS, March 12 (Xinhua) -- A police officer was killed and two others were wounded in an ambush attack near the southern Tunisian province of Kebili, the interior ministry said on Sunday.
Two suspected jihadists were shot dead and another one was wounded in an exchange of fire with the police after the gunmen on motorcycles ambushed a police checkpoint near Kebili, 480 km south of Tunis, on Saturday evening.
The fourth suspect was captured after the incident, the ministry said, adding that "home-made explosives" were found on the motorcycles.
Interior Minister Hedi Majdoub attended the policeman's funeral at Kebili on Sunday.
Since its revolution in 2011, Tunisia has witnessed an increase of jihadist attacks that have killed dozens of security force members as well as nearly 60 foreign tourists.
