MADRID, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- It has been a difficult season for Granada in the Liga Santander, but o Friday night the side coached by Lucas Alcaraz, not only took three vital points in their battle to avoid relegation, they also made a piece of Spanish football history.
The side that defeated a very poor Betis 4-1 in the Los Carmenes Stadium presented a starting 11 consisting of players from 11 different countries for the first time in the history of La Liga.
Alcaraz's side consisted of a Mexican ( Ochoa), a Frenchman (Foulquier), an Icelandic (Ingason), a Uruguayan (Gaston Silva), a Spaniard (Hector), a Nigerian (Uche Agbo), a Ghanaian (Wakaso), a Brazilian (Andres Perreira), a Moroccan (Carcela) and a Colombian (Adrian Ramos) and if that wasn't enough a Greek of Albanian origin, Panagiotis Kone replaced Carcela in the second half.
12 different nationalities, who worked together to give their side a victory which although it leaves them still in the relegation zone, means that Granada have now taken six points from a possible nine and lie just points from safety - something which looked virtually impossible at the start of the month.
