RIO DE JANEIRO, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- Executives from one of Brazil's major construction companies Odebrecht began to sign their lenience agreements with the Federal Police, to whom they provided evidence of a major corruption scheme involving politicians.
Odebrecht is one of the construction companies involved in the scandal revealed by the Carwash Operation, a federal police investigation which initially dealt with a corruption scheme at Petrobras, a state-controlled oil company, but later grew to include corruption in other governmental contracts with private companies.
As one of the major players in the construction field in Brazil, Odebrecht was deeply involved in a number of bribing schemes. Dozens of Odebrecht high executives submitted evidence and reported the involvement of a number of politicians.
Though the agreements remain so far undisclosed, the executives' testimonies are believed to be bombastic, involving dozens, if not over a hundred politicians who may get prosecuted for corruption and other crimes.
Odebrecht's CEO Marcelo Odecrecht has already been sentenced to 19 years and four months in prison for several accounts of corruption, criminal associations and money laundering.
