AMMAN, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- More than 1.5 million Jordanian casted their ballot on Tuesday to elect the 10th lower house of parliament, the Independent Election Commission said.
Jihad Momani, head of the commission, said more than 1.5 million Jordanian voted during the election day.
Voting started from 7:00 am and lasted until 7:00 pm, but it was extended for one more hour to open the door for more voters' turnout.
Results are expected to be announced within 48 hours after sorting of votes started late Tuesday.
Around four million Jordanians are eligible to cast their ballot to elect 130 members for the lower house. The number of candidates running for the seats stands at 1,252.
Minor incidents and clashes between supporters of certain candidates were reported in some parts of the country, especially in the northern and the southern governorates but were put under control by the security forces.
The EU Observation Mission that sent 108 observers on the election day said Tuesday that it noticed a noticeable turnout and all procedures were normal.
