EDINBURGH, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- The third Edinburgh International Culture Summit opened Wednesday to tackle the vital role that culture plays in the life of any successful community.

Under the theme of "Culture: Building Resilient Communities," the three-day event brings together culture ministers, artists, thinkers and arts leaders from 41 nations to share ideas and expertise in a bid to inspire positive changes in cultural policy and investment.

Addressing the opening ceremony at the Scottish parliament, Scotland's Culture Secretary Fiona Hyslop said Edinburgh festivals in August create a good platform for international culture, and Scotland as a modern, open and inclusive nation will continue to open its doors and welcome the world.

Inaugurated in 2012, the biennial summit aims to facilitate cultural collaboration between participants and reaffirm culture's important role in socio-economic development.
