German Chancellor Angela Merkel is in China for a three-day visit, and has been officially welcomed at a ceremony. Premier Li Keqiang and the chancellor have held talks, after which they'll see a series of cooperation agreements signed.

Ahead of the meeting, Li said collaboration on the two countries' industrial initiatives - China's Made-in-China 2025 and Germany's Industry 4.0 - will open new markets and advance smart manufacturing. While Merkel praised an inter-governmental consultation mechanism for boosting ties.

The German chancellor is accompanied to China by a business delegation. She arrived in Beijing on Sunday afternoon, made a speech at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and received a honorary doctorate degree from Nanjing University.

Her next stop is the northeastern industrial city of Shenyang. Merkel said Germany's experience in industry structural reforms could be helpful to China.
