YANGON, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar authorities have arrested two Reuters journalists for illegally obtaining and possessing government documents, Myanmar News Agency reported Thursday quoting the police force.

Two other police officers, a police captain and a police sergeant, allegedly involved in the case were also detained.

The two Yangon-based journalists, Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo with Reuters News Agency, were arrested for possessing important and secret government documents with regard to Rakhine state and security forces, and intending to send them to a foreign news agency, a release of the police force was quoted as saying.

The two journalists obtained the documents by deception from two policemen who returned from Rakhine state after serving security duties in Maungtaw and Buthidaung townships, the release said.

The two journalists and the two policemen have been charged under the Government Secret Act and Police Law respectively.

The Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) extremist terrorists launched fresh attacks on police outposts in Rakhine on Aug. 25, displacing residents from a number of areas in Maungtaw district.
