SUVA, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- Fiji will for the first time host the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) regional conference for Asia and the Pacific (APRC) in April next year.
According to Fiji's Department of Information on Friday, the 34th FAO regional conference for Asia and the Pacific, to be held in Nadi, the third largest city of Fiji on April 9-1, 2018, will be attended by all 46 FAO members for the Asia-Pacific region.
Selected organizations and the specialized agencies of the UN as well as a number of Intergovernmental Organisations (IGOs) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) will be invited to the conference.
Fijian Disaster Management and Meteorological Services Minister Inia Seruiratu, who signed the Memorandum of Responsibilities (MOR) with the Assistant FAO Director-General Khundavi Kadiresan in Suva, said this was an opportune time for Fiji to host the conference.
"As one of our commitment and sign of stronger cooperation, it is a great opportunity for the country to host the 34th FAO regional conference for Asia and the Pacific. Fiji will also have the opportunity to influence the agenda, drawing particular attention to issues of importance to Fiji and the Pacific Island countries," Seruiratu said.
"Over the past 45 years, FAO and the government of Fiji have cooperated in almost every field of FAO's endeavor."
