JAKARTA, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- Hundreds of people gathered outside the U.S. embassy in Jakarta on Friday, strongly opposing the U.S. decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

About 200 people from Islamic organizations expressed their disagreement with U.S. President Donald Trump's decision. They carried placards reading "Jerusalem is not Israel capital. We are with the Palestine."

Coordinator of the protest Agus Sudarmadji said their actions are part of the rejection being held by nations in the world.

"We are trying to join global efforts to disagree with the claim," he said.

About 400 police personnel have been deployed to secure the U.S. mission office in Jakarta, according to police chief for Jakarta Metropolitant Senior Commissioner Roma Hutajulu.

President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced the U.S. recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Indonesia strongly condemned the decision and urged Trump to reconsider it.
