Senior police officer killed by Al-Shabaab in northern Somalia

MOGADISHU, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- A senior police commander was killed on Wednesday in a car explosion in Puntland in Somalia's northern region.

Puntland security officer who requested not to be named told Xinhua that Ali Ibrahim Ali who was senior police officer died in Galkayo.

"The bomb was fitted in his car and it exploded while he was inside," the officer said.

He added that the security forces arrived at the scene and arrested several people in connection with the incident.

Terror group Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack.
