DHAKA, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- A mega exhibition aimed at showcasing the potential of the Bangladesh ICT industry, especially in the hardware sector, Wednesday kicked off in capital Dhaka.
Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wednesday afternoon inaugurated the "Digital World 2017" in a ceremony in presence of hundreds of local and foreign guests including experts.
The main attraction in the exhibition is the presence of Sophia, a humanoid robot that created huge enthusiasm among the youth and the artificial intelligence industry around the world.
A total of 162 local and foreign firms including Google, Facebook, Motorola, Qualcomm have already signed up for Digital World 2017 with the slogan "Ready for Tomorrow".
Organisers earlier expected to attract about 400 exhibitors from home and abroad and some 500,000 visitors.
The Bangladeshi government's ICT Division in collaboration with Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services organized the exhibition at a cost of 120 million taka (1.48 million U.S. dollars).
A number of ministers from countries including Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, the Philippines and the Maldives, are attending the fifth edition of the exhibition.
