WASHINGTON, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- U.S. auto sales in November will likely decrease 0.2 percent from the same month last year, although automakers offered high discount to clear out inventories at the end of the year, according to forecast released on Monday.

U.S. new vehicles sales in November will likely be about 1.374 million units, down 0.2 percent from 1.377 million units a year earlier, revealed the forecast released by auto consultants J.D. Power and LMC Automotive.

The average discount per vehicle in November hit 4,065 U.S. dollars. "The need to clear out record inventories of prior model-year vehicles continues to keep incentive spending aggressive in November," said Thomas King, J.D. Power's senior vice president of data and analytics.

For the full year of 2017, LMC said auto sales could rise to 17.2 million units.

U.S. sales of new vehicles, including cars and trucks, hit a record high of 17.55 million units in 2016.
